Independent Working Chef

Full time (40 hours) · Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Bonaire

Cooking is your craft, and you are ready to take the next step. As Independent Cook at Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Bonaire, you combine hands on cooking with technical leadership of the kitchen team, in a restaurant where fresh ingredients and Caribbean flavors set the tone.

About the role

You are a key figure in our kitchen. You prepare dishes yourself every shift, manage the mise en place and guide a team of 4 to 7 kitchen colleagues on technique and quality. You work closely with the Head Chef as a sparring partner on the menu, recipes and daily specials, and you take care of daily orders and inventory. Quality, hygiene and a smooth flow from kitchen to guest are in your hands.

What you will do

  • Prepare dishes yourself every shift and manage the mise en place

  • Lead the kitchen team on technique: instruct, train and coach 4 to 7 colleagues

  • Create kitchen schedules, arrange leave and keep track of the team's hours

  • Plan quantities based on expected turnout and guard the flow of dishes during service

  • Contribute to the menu, recipes and pricing as sparring partner of the Head Chef

  • Create and prepare daily specials, including dishes from the Green Egg

  • Handle daily orders with suppliers and check deliveries and invoices

  • Guard food quality, hygiene and safety standards (HACCP) in the kitchen

  • Evaluate kitchen staff together with the Head Chef and hold performance conversations

     

Who you are

  • At least 2 years of experience in a leading kitchen role in a hotel or restaurant

  • Trained at the level of a recognized culinary education (MBO 4 or comparable)

  • Skilled in a wide range of cooking techniques and equipment, such as the Green Egg, roner and Alto Shaam

  • Experienced in purchasing fresh products and contributing to menu composition

  • A calm, quality driven team player who keeps the overview during peak hours

  • Fluent in Dutch and English; Papiamentu is a plus

  • Willing to work evenings and weekends
